What's New

January 3, 2012

2012 is here and I’m so thankful. I have so many things to look forward to this year. To start, I’m going to Cancun for my niece’s wedding in February and I’m taking my daughter with me. I know we’ll have a great time. Sun, sand, ocean breezes, what a perfect getaway from the cold Kansas winter. I can hardly wait.

July will see the release of Dark Crossings, an Amish romantic suspense anthology with three stories by Karen Harper, Marta Perry and myself. Be sure to watch for it. My story is called Outside the Circle.

Also in July I hope to attend the Romance Writers of America Conference in Anaheim, CA. Along with hundreds of authors, I’ll be attending the Literacy book signing and the Rita awards, the romance industry’s Oscar-style event. I’m dieting now to get a great new dress. Formal events are few and far between in my life but I’m going to make the most of this one.

As the year winds down, I plan to take a Rhine River cruise through Europe with my long-time friend and fellow nurse, Evelyn. Talk about a girl’s night out. I’ve never been to Europe and can’t wait to see it.

I’m doing something else. What was it? Oh, yes! I’m going to be writing a few more books in between my travels. I’ve just finished A Home for Hannah. It’s my 6th book in the Brides of Amish Country series for Love Inspired. For those of you who have patiently waited for Sheriff Nick Bradley’s story, here it comes. Watch for it to hit the bookshelves in August.

Well, since I have to finish my next book before I fly to sunny Mexico next month, I’d better get back to it. I’m jumping into a story called A Hope Springs Christmas. (I’ll bet you can guess when it will be in bookstores.)

Until later, happy reading.

Here’s what’s new with me. I wish the news were better, but life isn’t always happy and bright. Sadly, my cousin Kay passed away after losing her battle with brain cancer in late March. On April 1st, the day of her funeral, we learned that my husband needed an MRI of his brain as soon as possible because he’d lost a portion of his peripheral vision.

The results of his test were devastating. They found three tumors in his brain as the result of undiagnosed lung cancer. He was given two weeks to two months to live. He lived ten weeks and passed away quietly on June 20th. I was at his side, holding his hand and telling him how much he was loved. He is with God now and that is my solace for I miss him dearly.

In spite of these tragedies, my life goes on. I am now the owner of a new puppy named KZ who has done wonders by helping me and my husband’s dog Sadie find relief from our sadness with her zany antics. What a hoot she is, but I’d forgotten how much fun it isn’t to housebreak a puppy. Friends and family are making sure I’m not lonely by including me in all sorts of activities from breakfast to movies. There are blessings in abundance in this world even as there is sorrow.

I’m back to writing now. My next book, The Christmas Quilt, will be out in December. I’ll have two more stories out next year, but I’ll tell you about those later.

Blessings to all,
Pat Davids

In personal news, I want to ask for your prayers for my cousin, Kay. Kay recently underwent surgery to remove an aggressive brain tumor and they were unable to get it all. Her family is struggling to accept her grim prognosis, but our faith and her faith remains strong.

I’m once again president of my local writer’s group, the Wichita Area Romance Authors. We have a fun blog at our website. Check it out at www.warawriters.com. You can also find information about our meetings. If you’re in the Wichita/Derby Kansas area, feel free to drop in for a visit.

2011 has started off with a bang as far as my writing is concerned. Here’s the news.

1. I will be joining Karen Harper and Marta Perry in an Amish anthology slated for release in July of 2012. I haven’t worked with Karen before, but I worked with Marta on our Homecoming Heroes series back in 2009 and she is a doll. I can’t wait to get started on the project.

2. Katie’s Redemption, The Doctor’s Blessing and An Amish Christmas are all going to large print, hardback editions from Thorndike Press. Ask your local library to order copies so everyone can share these wonderful Amish stories for free.

3. My first and second book, His Bundle of Love and Love Thine Enemy, first release in 2006, are now available on Kindle. Yea!! You Kindle fans can download copies of the books that started it all for me.

4. Love Thine Enemy is also being re-released in print form. It is being updated and will be available in June from Harlequin’s new Heartwarming line. A note of caution. It will sport a new title and I’ll get that information up as soon as I have it.

5. Book #4 in my Brides of Amish Country series, The Farmer Next Door, will be in stores in July 2011.

6. The Christmas Quilt, Book #5 in the same series, will go on sale in December 2011.

I have to take a deep breath and give thanks. My writing career is picking up steam. Now I’ve got to get back to writing books you will like.

Blessings to all,
Pat Davids

December 17, 2010

Christmas is here and I can’t believe it.

Where did this year go? It seems like only last week I was taking down Christmas decorations and putting them away. I may consider leaving mine out all year round. Why not? They look lovely.

Okay, I’m going to put them away in another few weeks because I hate to dust and the thought of dusting all my Santa sets, angels and nativities for a whole year is too much. Besides, I have this wonderful tradition here at my house. My grandson’s birthday is Dec 2nd and each year he and his family come over and decorate my house for the holidays. We have so much fun doing it together. I hope it’s something that he will want to do his whole life.

My year so far has been packed. Packed and unpacked, that is. I took a wonderful trip to Maine in October to see my good friend Mary. We had a blast. In November I went to Cancun on the trip of a lifetime. Sun, sand, palm trees, Mayan ruins, a beautiful wedding, this trip had it all. You can check out the photos on my Facebook page and send me a friend request at the same time.

Just so you don’t think I’m slacking, I’m working two nights a week in my beloved NICU and trying to write four more Amish stories. I recently finished The Farmer Next Door and I’m in the middle of The Christmas Quilt, another Amish Christmas story.

Yikes, I’ve got so much to do that I’d better sign off now and get back to work.

Merry Christmas everyone and may your 2011 be filled with blessings from Our Father in heaven. Remember to celebrate the birth of His Son with gratitude and love in your heart.

July 27, 2010

The summer is speeding by at a breakneck pace. I’m busy planning my daughter’s wedding, getting up to the farm to help my folks out a little, working at the hospital again and trying to get some books written. I recently took my grandkids to the zoo and had a ball feeding the giraffes. We saw white tigers and baby clouded leopards, too.

Okay, now for my big news! Looks like I’ll be traveling in the fall. I’m booked for a trip to Cancun, Mexico over Thanksgiving for my cousin’s wedding and I’m going back to Maine, one of my favorite places, to visit my friend Mary. Oh, that wonderful seafood is calling me already.

I’ve never been to Cancun, but I hear it’s nice. I’m certainly looking forward to the trip. I’ll be traveling with my aunt so that should be loads of fun. She’s a character. I hope to fit in a day trip to the Mayan pyramid. I’m nutty for historical things.

My Amish books seem to be selling well. You may have noticed that I’ve received a contract to write four more stories set in the fictional town of Hope Springs, Ohio. I love peeking in on my previous characters to see what they’ve been up to since their books were written.

I’ll try to update this page more often in the future now that I have things to write. May God bless and have a great summer everyone.

Life has been so busy that I thought I'd never get around to updating this page. What's new with me? A lot.

I'm back working part time at the hospital. Yes, I'm getting my "baby fix" in the NICU again. It's amazing how much I've missed holding and rocking babies. The benefit package and salary aren't bad, either, but working has cut into my writing time.

The biggest news is that my daughter is getting married. Hold the phone! Yes, after ten years with her significant other they are making it official. I'm so thrilled. I was with her when she picked out her wedding gown. Talk about holding back tears of joy. I'm so excited. I hope to have pictures to post of the event in September. See, a mother's prayers do get answered.

Lest you think I've given up writing, I haven't. I'm working on three new Amish stories for Steeple Hill with a cowboy story thrown in for good measure. I hope they like what I've done. After thirteen books it's getting a little harder to come up with new ideas. I think I need to kick back and read more. Oh, wait, when do I have time?

Summer is almost here and my flower gardens are glowing with roses, daylilies, begonias, impatiens and hosta. Okay, the weeds are looking pretty good, too, but I'll get to them tomorrow, or the day after that. Sometime soon. As soon as I finish one more chapter on my new book.

Blessings to all,
Pat

Who’s the killer?

I know, I know, the end of A Cloud of Suspicion left you hanging, but don’t despair. The next book in the Without a Trace series is coming soon. Deadly Competition by Roxanne Rustand will be on the shelves in May. Her Last Chance by Terri Reed wraps up the story in June. You won’t believe who done it.

A New Sale! Steeple Hill has purchased three new books from me. All three will feature Amish characters and will be set in the fictitious town of Hope Springs, Ohio. The first story, currently titled The Swallow’s Nest, will be out in early 2010.
